Since 1971, Delta Environmental, formerly Delta Laboratories, has a rich history of environmental advocacy and education with hands-on programs for K-12 students and the Rochester Community on water resources and quality.
Many schools are not taking advantage of their access to waterways or ponds on their property, within a short walking distance, or in the local community. Delta Environmental empowers teachers to have STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) lessons in their school with our a hands-on program.
It is easy for students that live in metropolitan areas and the surrounding suburbs to feel disconnected from the environment and to have the idea that the environment is what exists in the wilderness. Equally important, it is easy for rural students to not make the connections between their local conditions and the distant metropolitan areas. We want to reconnect students with their surroundings and to get them interested in their local environments of their yards, parks, and other outdoor spaces. This proposed program provides students a better awareness and development of a “sense of space” at local levels.
We reach over 7,900 community members through our school and community outreach programs.
Delta Environmental sponsors yearly Earth Day Clean-ups and educational outreach events around the Rochester area. Delta Environmental’s outdoor field trips, in-school activities, and community events provide opportunities provide that personal environmental connection. Our Program Director, Kaeti Stoss, serves as the Aquatics Instructor for Monroe County for the NYS Envirothon, a hands-on, high school environmental education competition.
